Watch: GMC Hummer EV’s Crab Mode to be a Real Treat

General Motors has just clarified the date for the reveal of its future GMC Hummer EV. It will be October 20 in an event that, you guessed it, will be virtual. Reservations will open at the same time.

The late Hummer is being resurrected into a fully electric truck (SUV and pickup) and it’s going to have some pretty impressive specs and attributes, including a so-called “Crab Mode.”

Thanks to the vehicle’s four-wheel steering system, the rear wheels will turn in the same direction as the front wheels when you engage this particular mode, allowing diagonal moves similar to those of the famous crustacean on the beach. Obviously, this is something that off-road enthusiasts will appreciate in tight spots.

As previously reported, the new GMC Hummer EV will deliver up to 1,000 horsepower, an insane 11,500 pound-feet of torque and 0-100 km/h acceleration in about three seconds. In fact, along with the Crab Mode, there will be an Adrenaline Mode for maximum performance.

We also know that the Hummer EV will have removable roof panels, joining the ranks of the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator as well as the all-new Ford Bronco. The pickup variant will likely feature GMC’s versatile MultiPro tailgate (currently found on the Sierra).

Production is supposed to start in the fall of 2021 at GM’s Detroit/Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan, which is being retooled to build EVs exclusively. However, customers in Canada will need to wait another full year to take delivery of their GMC Hummer EV.
