The Car Guide's Best Buys for 2021: GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe
Every year, The Car Guide unveils a list of Best Buys covering all the different vehicle categories in the industry.
In the full-size SUV segment, three models based on the same platform and completely redesigned for 2021 are our pick. They are the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe plus the GMC Yukon.

All three offer a strong engine lineup, starting with a pair of gasoline V8s that deliver 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively. New this year is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel that serves up 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
The Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon are solidly built, very spacious and pleasant to drive, with a combination of ride and handling that can’t be surpassed by any competitor. And for those who like off-road excursions, Z71 (Chevrolet) and AT4 (GMC) variants are available.
In second place, you’ll find the Ford Expedition, which does not offer a single V8 engine, but rather a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 with two output levels (375 or 400 horsepower). The ride is smooth, but handling is not as impressive as the GM trio.
Finally, the Toyota Sequoia ranks third despite having an extremely old design and platform. It stands out with solid construction, good off-road capability and unbeatable reliability. On the other hand, the dated interior and poor fuel economy are tough to ignore.
