2024 Kia EV9 Makes North American Debut in New York
Following its global premiere in South Korea in February, the all-new 2024 Kia EV9 electric SUV today made its first appearance in North America at the New York Auto Show.
As the second Kia vehicle to be based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP), and the first to use a fourth-generation battery pack with improved energy density, the three-row EV9 will go on sale in Canada this fall offering six- and seven-passenger configurations.

99.8kWh Battery
All EV9 models in Canada will get a 99.8kWh battery. Single-motor variants (201 hp, 250 lb-ft. of torque) deliver up to 480 km of range, while the more powerful dual-motor variants (379 hp, 516 lb-ft. of torque) are still good for 400 km.
Drivers have three different modes to choose from: Eco, Comfort and Sport. And thanks to the EV9’s 800V architecture, charging the battery from 10-80 percent can be done in less than 25 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger (230kW max charging power). Towing capacity with the dual-motor EV9 is rated at 5,000 lbs.
Telluride-Like Dimensions
At 5,010 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,750 mm tall, the all-electric Kia EV9 is fairly identical in size to the conventionally powered Telluride. However, at 3,100 mm, the wheelbase is 200 mm longer, resulting in a lot more legroom for passengers.
Cargo capacity amounts to 571 litres when all the seats are up and increases to 2,320 litres when the second and third rows are folded down.
The minimalist interior design involves a number of sustainable materials, such as polyurethane seat covers as well as carpeting and floor mats made from recycled fibres. The two-tier, floating centre console extends to the second row and incorporates a storage tray and compartment.
The first two rows maximize comfort with available Relaxation Seats featuring a built-in power legrest. These seats are heated and ventilated, too. Meanwhile, occupants will find several USB-C ports throughout the cabin to power their electronic devices, plus an optional 14-speaker Meridian audio system with 708 watts of power.
New Operating System
The 2024 Kia EV9 is the brand’s first vehicle to receive the new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system, which is faster and has over-the-air update capability. The navigation feature provides an estimated time of arrival and required charging sessions to plan along the way.
By the way, similar to the EV6, the EV9 comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality through its Integrated Charging Control Unit, meaning you can use up to 3.68 kW of power from the battery for laptops or camping equipment.
As mentioned earlier, deliveries in Canada will begin this fall. Kia won’t say how many units exactly are planned to come our way, or how long delivery times will be.
